La Cantina de Palermo

Throughout its history, the restaurant of Club Atlético Palermo, now known as Cantina Palermo, has received visits from important tango orchestras of the 1950s, such as Osvaldo Pugliese and Cayetano Di Sarli, the "tango maestro," and served as the venue for the neighborhood's first milongas. The club was founded in 1914 and is probably the oldest in Palermo.

In youth football, it is a breeding ground. Notable figures, including the current number 9 of the national team, Gonzalo "Pipita" Higuaín, emerged from here. While the sporting background is important, even more remarkable is the role the club played in the social activity of an emblematic neighborhood like Palermo, where immigrant families and old Creole families came together to form a strong middle class, typical of 20th century Argentina.
